Strike a Pose
marci-bazinga2
This is one of my awesome student workers, Marci. She was sporting her BAZINGA shirt (Big Bang Theory) the other day and I just couldn’t resist having her strike a pose. Thanks, Marci! So cute!

Footwear
Favorite Footwear
These are not my “go to” shoes, but I like them because I usually always wear black shoes. I get excited when I put together an outfit that I can wear these. Pretty comfortable too.

Hobby

Reading is a hobby I try to embrace. I’ve a pretty slow reader most of the time and my comprehension has never been great. As much as I really want to read this book, “The Help” I may have to give up on it. 🙁 I do enjoy reading. Just hard to find time and the concentration that I need, lately.

For those of you who enjoy using Avacados in your cooking, you know they have been so expensive for quite some time. Like, $1-2 EACH! I found them recently for 64 cents each. I couldn’t resist. Can’t wait to make some Gauc. 🙂

I love pinterest, but…

I love pinterest, but you know what would make it even better? If they had a diet button, so that when you’re trying to be healthy, you don’t have to be tempted by all those mouth-watering photos! Anyone agree with me?

January’s End of the Month Summary

This month I was happy about: getting a “Leading Performance (exceeds expectations)” on my 1st end of the year evaluation at my job.

This month I was sad about: Rob being sick.

Something I accomplished this month was: just surviving! I had 2.5 days of Rob in the hospital and 3.5 days of Rob being gone working an Emmaus Walk. Now for many of you, you’re thinking woop-de-do, but my work schedule and the kids’ school schedule don’t jive at all. I’m so thankful for my friends who helped me out during those days.
Something new I did was: photograph a wedding for a non-family member. 🙂

Books I read were: The Hunger Games (Dec. 27-Jan. 16)
The Help (currently reading)

Movies I watched were:
P.S. I Love You
National Treasure

TV Shows I watched were: not too many! I feel like with our crazy business, our lack of all being home together, and the fact a lot of shows having started back up, we didn’t watch that much. We did start watching American Idol.
I watched:
Pioneer Woman
The Kardashians Reruns
Tori & Dean
Alaska State Troopers
Teen Mom 2
….basically lots of trash. 🙂

My favorite song this month was:
Not Over You by Gavin DeGraw
I love the melody in this song as I do with so many of Gavin DeGraw’s songs.

What I remember about work was: the hiring of 13 new student workers for this semester. One of the things I’ve wanted to do is improve the training of our student workers. I’m so happy that the implementation of one-on-one training and continual follow-up and holding them accountable looks to be much more efficient and the retainment of information is greater. We’ve hired some really sweet students that I’m excited about working with this semester and for many semesters to come.

A lesson I learned this month was: that I have friends that I can rely on. I was also reminded to “Let Go and Let God!”

A friend and I: ate at Amsterdam’s Cafe for lunch to celebrate her birthday! Great time.

My favorite pic that I took was:
2012 - 21

I cooked: much of nothing!

The boys were: in constant battle with each other. (nothing new there)

My husband was: absent most of the time when I wasn’t.

The thing I’ll remember most from this month was:
-Rob in the hospital
-fun time with Drew for his 14th bday
-Rob’s 1st time working Emmaus and all the driving I did that weekend

Questions I’ve pondered are:
Why am I so unmotivated in this new year?
What can I do to change it?

Feel free to answer these questions at the end of each month yourself! I’d love to come see your month in summary. 🙂

Project 366 Rewind {Week 4}

Naptime Momtog

As I said on my post for the Scavenger Hunt, I told you that I’m struggling. What I didn’t mention was that in this new year, I can’t get into groove for anything! I absolutely despise that. So this week you can see I didn’t get many pictures. And this week I’m not doing any better so far. 🙁 Maybe I just need to not worry with this project this year…

22. Lego House: This is the 2nd Lego House that Monkey has made. This set makes 3 different houses. Pretty cool.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday #4

I am in such a rut right now photography-wise. Blah! Part of it is I’m rushing right here at the deadline to get pics done. I want to be creative, but these last few weeks have been too dang hectic. This week isn’t lookin’ much better.

Smile

This weekend I pulled out a box of some of my old miniature toys. I think this is a miniature from Strawberry Shortcake? I like her smile. I tried to get a pic of one of my boys smiling over the weekend, but they weren’t too cooperative with what I was trying to do.

Stand Alone

This table and chairs used to live in my doll house. My Granddad bargained for these on one of our trips to Mexico.

Something Old
oldbooks
At work the other night, I went down to our “closed stacks” where only employees can go. I brought my camera and walked around looking for interesting things to take pics of. I also knew there were some really old books down there. Falling apart old from the 1800’s!

Artificial

These artificial flowers are on a coworkers desk.

Repeating Patterns

Another item I found in closed stacks….I thought this was a good representation of repeating patterns. How long has it been since you’ve seen a card catalogue?

Viral or Bacterial?

Ok, so Sunday evening (Jan.15) Rob and the kids and I watched National Treasure. Then, after putting the kids to bed Rob and I started watching P.S. I Love You. Not to long into the movie, Rob started complaining of gas pain, so I gave him some medicine. A little later he said he was feeling nauseous. He was ok for a while. I ended up finishing up the movie without him. After I retired to bed, Rob raced to the toilet just in time before vomiting. This continued every 30 minutes for awhile. It got worse from there, but I’ll spare you the specific details. After a couple hours, I put my clothes on and when he came out of the bathroom I told him we needed to get the ER. So he hurriedly got dressed and we jumped in the car barf pot in hand, praying that we’d make it before he got sick again.

Luckily when we got to the ER, they were not busy at all and were able to get our insurance info and into triage, then back to the back to see a doc. They immediately hooked him up to an IV, drew blood, and he also saw the doc. They ended up giving him some anti-nausea, imodium, along with a bag of fluid. These meds proved to be pretty useless. Rob’s regular doc came in and determined since he wouldn’t be able to keep his meds in, if he sent him home that Rob would need to be admitted for at least 24 hours. Rob was on a strict IV diet until late afternoon, when they fianlly let him have Sprite and Jello.

He got settled into his room and I went home to eat and let the kids know what was going on. They were at home for the MLK holiday. I ended up not going into work for the 6 hours that we were open. My neighbors were so sweet to help me out with the kids that afternoon.

That evening when I was back visiting Rob spiked a fever, going from normal temps to over 103 in less than 2 hours. They drew more blood and gave him some Tylenol and a bag of precautionary antibiotic.

The next day (Tuesday) when I showed up, I expected to be bring Rob home, but due to the fever and the fact he was still a bit sick to his stomach, Doc wanted to be cautious and keep Rob another night. He had been eating a very small amount of “Non-Gastric Stimulating” foods. Late that morning, I arranged for the kids to be taken care of by our friends; J & R. They had been by to visit Rob and had offered to help in anyway, so that was one less things for me to worry with. It also allowed me to go to work for a few hours. After work, I went back by the hospital to see Rob and pick up my laptop that I had left so he could use it while I was running errands and at work. After that I went and picked up the boys. J & R even had leftovers for me to Drew’s bedtime is later, so he stayed up with me for a bit.

Wednesday, I got the kids off to school and raced over to the hospital. we had to hang out for a while, waiting on paperwork, and he ended up getting released about 9:40am.

I headed to work that afternoon and came home for dinner as I always do. Our neighbors were so nice to make us dinner and bring it over. Yummy!

So in these 2 1/2 days, we went from thinking it was food poisoning (bacterial) to a virus. Emails had circulated and we came to realize that the training Rob had been to on Saturday, there were about 12 other guys that ended up sick as well. Later in the week some of the wives ended up getting it. The blood cultures came back that it was viral as well.

More energy with age?

“Maybe now that I’m 14, I don’t get tired.
-Alex
(He says this after saying he’s got so much energy and can’t believe he’s not tired after staying up so late).

If only this was true; that the older we get the more energy we have! Why doesn’t it work this way?

ONE FOUR

I am in shock that 14 years ago today was one of the biggest days of my life. They day I gave birth to my 1st child. The day that would forever change me in so many good ways. The day I would realize how much love I could have for 1 individual.

I love being able to celebrate birthdays with the boys, but this year I get a little sick to my stomach realizing how with each year he earns more responsibilities. Mainly, next year at this time he will be able to get a driving permit. Did I just say that? It really does make me shake in my boots just thinking about that little detail. I will savor this year in knowing it’s the last year that he will be a non-driver! Granted next year is just the beginning. He will not be able to drive by himself, but I’ll have to teach him. Hopefully, I can get Rob to do most of that. 🙂

Scavenger Hunt Sunday #3

Sunset
sunset
I’m so sad I was not able to capture a real sunset this past week. With our sunset occurring about 4:45, it makes it a bit of a challenge for me to take a pic of it. So I improvised by taking a picture from my front door and using the “Magic Sunset Action” from Coffee Shop Blog.

Day in the Life

Since I work the 2nd shift, the part of the day that I’m home is spent hanging out with Daisy. Last week, I went outside to see if I could capture her going after a squirrel. Here she is trying to figure out how to follow the squirrel up the tree.

I had fun playing with the T-Rex that Monkey got for Christmas. Thought it made for a cute series of FOUR.
