Dear txting student,
I know you must have some pressing information to pass along in the form of a txt, but why don’t you wait till you have finished crossing the street?
Thanks much!
Someone who would like to NOT run you over

Dear leftover Easter candy (specifically chocolate),
Why must you call my name so loudly from the depths of the pantry? I’m thinking if I hurry up and devour all of you, then I don’t have to resist you any longer. And that way you won’t be taking up that space in the pantry any more….ha ha!
Your biggest fan

The letter below was one I actually wrote in an email this past week (except for the signature part).
Dear student (workers),
I would like to remind you that if you make a mess, it is your responsibility to clean it up. Iโ€™m specifically talking about the coke that was spilled at the middle desk at circ. We came in to work today to a very sticky area. I cannot believe that someone would leave such a huge mess for someone else to clean up. It is not my job (or anyone elseโ€™s job) to clean up after you. Please be adults here and clean up after yourself!!
Thanks much!
Your favorite supervisor ๐Ÿ™‚

Auburn Vet School Open House

Today was Auburn’s Vet School Open House. It’s a free event for families to come see what goes on at the vet school, also used a recruiting tool for potential veterinary majors. We always enjoy it and learn a lot too! Here’s a few pics:

Den Meeting at the Lake {Conservation Project}

Friday we made a trip over to Lake Martin, so the boys in our den could get another requirement for the World Conservation Award, they’ve been working on. Our den leader, Mr. W., has a friend, Mr. M, who has a house on the lake. One of the things he enjoys doing to help the fish is dropping seasoned Christmas trees in the lake, which gives the little fish a safe haven from the bigger fish. So the boys got to help with this process, which is described below…

Step 1: We did this step back right after Christmas. We all saved our Christmas trees, and Mr. W. came by and got the trees and stored them until we could go out to the lake.

Step 2: We brought the trees out to the lake with us. Mr. M took a good look at them to ensure there was nothing on the tree that would hurt the marine life.

Step 3: The trees were put in the water in preparation to be waited down.

Step 4: The cinder blocks were brought down to the dock along with some rope. The rope was attached to each block before putting them into the canoe.

Step 5: Here Alex helps attach the cinder block to the tree with the other end of the rope.

Step 6: The cinder block is put into the canoe, while the tree hangs down and is pulled along next to the canoe in the water.

Step 7: The guys canoed out to the location where the tree and weight will be dropped. It’s much more difficult to paddle out because of the weight of the cinder block.

Step 8: Arrive at the desired location and carefully put the block on the side of the canoe allowing the weight and tree to sink to the bottom.

Step 9: Paddle back to the dock. Since it was so much easier, the boys got to help on the way back!

Monkey’s New Hair

It was time for the boys to get haircuts and Alex has been asking for a flat top for awhile. After having the ordeal, we had with had with Drew’s hair letting him get a flat top at age three…BIG mistake! He was a “poof head” for at least a year after that. Soooo, that has made reluctant to let Alex do it. Since he’s 8 and summer is knocking our door, we decided he could get one. So without further ado…

Easter Sunday

Last Sunday I took the day off and enjoyed the day with the family. We rose early to attend the 8 a.m. church service and then, got over to Montgomery for brunch. We really enjoyed eating at the Egg and I before galavanting over to Oak Park. We walked around the park for a bit. I took some pictures (no surprise there) and we found W.A. Gayle Planetarium. Since we still had some time before the planetarium show started we drove over to the River Walk, where I took more pictures as we walked down the river walk. We returned to Oak Park for a few minutes waiting for the Planetarium to opened. Soon after that we enjoyed the planetarium show.

Arrow of Light Ceremony

Back in 2009, Drew received his Arrow of Light and crossed over to Boy Scouts. This year for the ceremony, Drew got to be one of the Boy Scouts dressed up in regalia. He had a lot of fun being on the other side of the ceremony this year. Here’s some pictures from the evening.

Day Trip to Oglethorp University

Teenager had an all day soccer clinic in Atlanta this past Saturday. We decided to make the most out of it and go up as a family. It was on the campus of Oglethorp University, which is a beautiful campus. In between games we got to see a free baseball game there as well.

Library Story #3

LibraryStories

One of the greatest parts of my job is working with college students. They bring such joy and a different take on life. Their worlds are so different from mine and really most adults. I wonder sometimes if I was that naive…and I’m sure the answer is yes. ๐Ÿ™‚

In my department, we employ students of all ethnicities, which is really cool. Many of the students come to the U.S. just to go to college. I can’t even imagine how hard that must be. My international students are great though. They are so eager to learn about American culture and have no problem asking what something means or how to say something in English. Here’s a couple examples.

My student worker from Turkey was talking about the beautiful weather and her plans to go hang out in the nice weather after work. She said, “what is it called with the birds go cheep-cheep-cheep? what’s that called in English?” I had to stop and think. I almost responded with “Tweeting.” no, no, no. Then I responded with “Chirping, it’s called chirping.” She said, “Ahhh, ok, chirping the birds are chirping lots. I whistle at them and they stop and look and then they chirp back and me.”

I wish you could hear her accent. It’s awesome!

~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of my Indian student workers (Gautam) turns to the other student worker (Chase), and proceeds to ask what an O-R-G-I-E-S was! Yes, he really spelled it out. As I heard the letters being spelled out I was thinking, “Oh my. Is he really spelling what I think he’s spelling?” My eyes about popped out of my head. Chase responded in a very diplomatic way and Gautam was like “Reeee-ally?” They both looked back and me to see my face turning completely red. Not sure if Gautam was embarrassed or not, but sure was. Turned out he read the word in a textbook. Not sure what orgies have to do with his major, engineering….
