80’s party

A few weeks ago, we went to our friend’s 40th Birthday party. It was 80’s Themed. We scrounged around an hour before the party. I was lucky enough to come across my original New Kids on the Block shirt that was mine back when I was in Jr. high. Yes, I could still wear it, only because it used to be a night shirt! 🙂

NYLT

Last week, Teenager was away at his first camp of the summer. We dropped him off on Sunday at Camp Jamison which is part of Camp Bert Adams, the wilderness part of the camp. This camp was NYLT, which stands for National Youth Leadership Training.

NYLT Graduate

This was such a great experience for Teenager. He came back with knowledge to lead, growth from his experiences, and friendships to last a lifetime. The first 2 days it monsooned. On our way home after picking him up Friday night, he told us stories of his group moping around, and how even though he was ready to go home and call it quits, he brought his group together in prayer. He reminded them that God is doing this for a reason, not to make them miserable, or to worsen their homesickness. He told them that in life, they will have to battle many storms, and someday they’ll look back at this storm and realize it was nothing compared to what grown-up life can bring. He said the last day each group voted who would get to bring home the Team flag. He was surprised to find out, he was the one voted by his peers in his team to take the flag home. What an honor!

The day camp started.

Pine Mountain Day Hike

A few weeks ago, actually it was the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, we got up and decided to go over to Pine Mountain for a day hike. We packed up Teenager’s backpacking backpack with water, stuff for lunch, sun screen, and other necessities. We hopped in the car and headed to FDR State Park Office to get a map and go to the restroom one last time before venturing out on our day hike.

We decided to try the 6.7 mile Wolfden loop. This is a favorite for many people because there are several Falls, which are always pretty and a great places to stop and cool off.
This does a nice job of talking about Pine Mountain trail and the Wolfden Loop.

There was a pretty decent section at the beginning of our hike that was wiped out during the April 2011 tornado that went through. I’m not sure I captured how different this part of the trail looked, but all the trees were knocked down and a lot of work had to be done to even be able to walk that part of the trail. It was quite hot, not having the canopy of trees overhead. All the vegetation in that area was dry and the landscape reminded me of Texas.

Lunch was quickly used for energy on our hike back to the car, so we were a bit hungry. We decided to head over to Warm Springs, GA for a snack. We ended up at Warm Springs Bed and Breakfast.

Boy Scout Open House

Teenager’s Boy Scout Troop has been using part of the upstairs offices in Rob’s company’s building. As a thank you to Rob’s company, the Troop put on an Open House for everyone and their families. They did a great job, as everyone had a good time and enjoyed a break from the humdrum of work in an office. 🙂 Here’s a few pics:

Scripture Picture {John 14:27}

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
~John 14:27

John 14:27
I chose this picture because this is such a peaceful place. This was taken on our hike we took a couple weeks ago that I still haven’t blogged about. I’m working on the post and hope to have it up soon. Anyway, I love waterfalls. As we were hiking we continued to hear the sounds of flowing water in the stream which eventually turned into these falls. I made a comment that it was my favorite sound in the whole world. Just so peaceful and calming. I thought this verse was so fitting for the way it made me feel.

Pack Meeting {Soccer Belt Loop}

Tonight we were out at the soccer fields for our Cub Scout Pack Meeting. During the Summer, we’re much more laid back and try and do something fun, easy, but still something where the boys are making good use of their time. Here’s a few pics of the boys meeting requirements for the soccer belt loop.

My favorite song this month was: ?. I don’t feel like I really listened to music that much this month, which is totally weird for me.
What I remember about work were: so many of my favorite student workers graduating.
A lesson I learned this month was: I may actually look and sound younger than I feel at times!
A friend and I: were busy with end of school stuff and didn’t have time to get together.
My favorite pic that I took was:
daguerreotype-shiro
Teenager with the Toomer’s trees above him
I cooked: pulled pork sandwiches
The boys were: happy that summer has begun.
My husband was: busy as always.
The thing I’ll remember most from this month was: enjoying a hike with the family over Memorial Day weekend.

Bowling

We’re in the first full week of summer, so keeping the boys busy is key to my sanity. Drew has a lot going on through the entire summer. Alex has a couple weeks of activities, so he has a lot more down time. We finally took advantage of the free bowling passes that the kids always bring home right before summer starts. Rob went and got summer passes for him and me. We purchased bowling shoes for all of us and now we can bowl 2 games everyday for the entire summer. Expect lots of bowling pics the summer. 🙂

And BTW, I suck at bowling!
