AHS Graduation 2013
Thursday, Teenager played during his high school’s graduation. I decided to go in support of Teenager as well as many friends who had kids crossing the stage.
See all the pics here.

144.365 {Teenager drivin’}
I haven’t talked about how scary this has been for me. Ever since Teenager got his driving permit, I have had a serious internal struggle. I was the first person that he drove with. You see when I took him to get his driving permit a few weeks ago, the first thing he asked to do when we got home, was of course, to drive. I gave in and let him drive around our block and through our quiet (not a lot of traffic) neighborhood.
Rob continued to take him the next week and he finally felt confident enough to let him venture off onto busier streets. Then there came the day when we were going out to the soccer fields and Teenager drove all of us out there. I was sitting in the back seat. My internal “scared-meter” continued to rise.
“Oh! We’re going to fast!”
“Oh! We’re going to run off the road!”
“Oh! You made that turn way too fast!”
No, I didn’t think we were going to die, but I did want to holler out. I wasn’t in the passenger seat and I wasn’t 2nd in control. Now, if I really thought we were about to die, no doubt, I would have yelled!
Since it’s summer and we’re home a lot together, I’ve been trying to let him drive every time we go somewhere. It is hard giving up the keys to him, because it is ‘easier’ to be the driver and be in control. However, practice and experience is what is going to make him a better driver. So in 244 days when he gets his license, I will feel confident that he is the very best driver he can be. Most importantly, he’s understands out to be a defensive driver and is prepared for all those people out there who are not putting driving first!

Remembering the Last Few Years….
Dear Teenager and Monkey,
Man, how times flies when your havin’ fun and as crazy busy as we are. Today was the last day of school for y’all and know how exciting that is to have another year done. It’s also exciting to know you’re both moving up to the “next” level of schooling. Teenager to high school. Monkey to the the 4-5 Elementary School, which is a brand new school! As I made these collages, I thought back to all the accomplishments both of you have achieved over the last 2 or 3 years.
Monkey,
While in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade you have tried new sports, continued to be active in church activities, and really enjoyed being a cub scout. I am so proud of the little man you’re becoming and sweet, sensitive heart you have.
Let’s see if I can list things you’ve done over the past 3 years:
-advanced to Bear Rank in Cub Scouts
-played soccer in the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013
-participated in the Christmas Pageant at church on Christmas Eve in 2011 and 2012
-enjoyed your first birthday party with friends
–played flag football
–got glasses
–played machine pitched baseball twice
Teenager,
While at AJHS for your 8th & 9th grade years, as quickly as it went by you acquired so much knowledge and accomplished more than I ever thought possible. Yes, there were lots of times you wanted to give up because it all just didn’t seem worth it. I hope that through all these things you’ve seen how important perseverance is in life.
Let’s see if I can list things you’ve done over the past 2 years:
Scouts
-with your dad and other leaders/friends started a new boy scout troop
-was one of the first patrol leaders for the troop
-got voted by your fellow troop mates to be the 2nd Senior Patrol Leader for the new troop
–attended NYLT to prepare you for leadership positions in scouting and in life, too
-the other members in your team voted for you to take the team flag home. What an honor!
-performed in 2 Arrow of Light Ceremonies for Monkey’s pack.
–participated in the Mountaineer Program while attending Camp Sequoyah
-you were so respected during that week you were voted by the Mountaineer Leader for the “Golden Bike Wheel Award” of the Week!
-ran in your first Mud Run during your week at Sequoyah
-found a love for rock climbing and mountain biking
-attended Camp Daniel Boone
Band
–went to Disney World with the band for festival and a special workshop with a Disney musician
-made the Honor’s band for next year as a sophomore
-marched in the high school marching band during the 2012 football season
Sports
-continued your travel soccer ‘career’ with Auburn Thunder
-played a season of rec league in between Thunder and JV
-made the high school jr. varsity team
Misc.
-you passed your learner’s permit test
–ventured over to Biloxi so you and dad could go see Elton John in concert
I love yall so much. I am just proud of you and look forward to seeing y’all continue to grow into wonderful young men.
Last Day
Looking on Facebook this morning, being bombarded by pics of my friends with kids graduating from high school tonight just has me feeling so different emotions. Mostly a nervous feeling with the knowledge that we’ll be there in just 3 quick years, I’ll be sitting in their shoes. That in itself makes me feel, not only old, but sick to my stomach. I’m not ready for that…at. all! Knowing Drew will more than likely be going to Auburn University, meaning he won’t be moving away, you’d think would help calm those feelings, but they don’t.
Today is the last day of school (obviously). I always do a first day of school pics, but this year I made the boys take last day of school pics. Both boys are moving up to new schools next year. Drew to the high school for 10th grade. Alex up the brand new school for 4th grade.

Trip to Birmingham
Teenager and the AHS JV soccer team were in a tournament back in April. He went up with the team. Rob and I went up Friday night to watch the 2 games. Drove back to our friends’ lake house in Dadeville, then served at Emmaus Saturday morning and headed back up to Birmingham after that. Monkey was with Rob’s mom while we did all this.
