Another Snowpocalypse 2014?

Well, we’re all home again today for another “Snow Day.” However, it’s 45 degrees and sunny out! Back at the end of January, we were all home for 3 days because of real snow and ice. Here’s a few pics after much of the snow and ice had already begun to melt.

6 weeks later…

Two weeks ago, when we were at our church’s retreat, I finally began to grieve. It slapped me right in the face as I sat there Saturday night, listening to Olu Brown recount the story of him dealing with the loss of his Dad. There were many similarities in our stories, but it wouldn’t have mattered. I just sat so stiff grasping on to my emotions as if I let a tear drop, I would go plunging from the highest of cliffs. I made it through Olu’s message without coming completely unwound, but then we sang 10,000 Reasons. Or rather everyone else rejoiced in the singing of this wonderful song. I stood there, arms crossed, not singing a word, again trying not to ab-solute-ly lose it. The song ended and it was time to dismiss to our small groups, which I dreaded. I had been quite vocal at our meeting earlier and I knew I wouldn’t be able to talk, much less share anything at this meeting. Luckily, one of my close friends was in there and she came and sat with her arm around me during our discussion of transformation.

After our discussion concluded, all I really wanted to do was to go to bed. I wasn’t in the mood to visit or make small talk. However, before the retreat I was asked to make a slideshow of the all the pics from the weekend. I had to meet up with a few people to finalize some details and then went back to my room to work on the video. I was up till midnight.

Sunday I woke up hoping to be rejuvenated, but I woke up with the pit of my stomach just feeling sick. Now…2 weeks later and it hasn’t subsided. I’m in a dark state of sadness right now.

I’ve felt this whole time that I’ve handled the loss of my Dad way too easily. The littlest details make me think of him. I knew deep down I wouldn’t get off so easily with this whole grief thing. Pray that with time it the pain assuages.

New Year’s Eve 2013

I just realized I never really finished talking about our trip back from Texas. We had flown out there with plans to visit with Dad, help him out with whatever he needed help with, and prepare the truck he was giving us and drive it back home. Well, as you know plans changed while we were in flight to DFW.

After the Memorial Service on Monday, Rob and Teenager took over the task of getting the truck ready. We also decided to take the trailer that my Dad had as well. Meanwhile, I spent time helping Justin and Jason going through stuff at Dad’s house. Divvying things up, throwing things out, enjoying some laughs along the way from items/pictures we found.

I also walked around and just took pics of random things of Dad’s.

We ended up leaving late New Year’s Eve and drove until about 4 in the morning. We stopped in Meridian, MS as we decided that way we could get a little more use out of the room, by getting a late checkout, watching some bowl games, and then head home mid-afternoon.

I had been anxious about driving this truck back with my piano in the back. The story of the piano is another entry, I’ll have to share with you some day. Let’s just say I’m happy to have it in my house now! And so are the boys.

At the Park with Cousins

I’m still playing catch up with all my pics and posts. These pics were taken while we were in Texas in December. We took a break from all the memorial service planning, cleaning out of Dad’s house, etc to let the boys play at the park with my Brother, Mel’s kids. It was a much needed break for everyone!

Church Retreat {2014}

Friday afternoon, I dropped Teenager off for Winter Retreat 2014. I get chills to see the 100’s of teenagers anxiously waiting to load the 7 charter buses to drive away. Shocco Springs in Talladega, AL hosts both the Youth Retreat and the Family Church Retreat.

New Driver in the House

I snapped a few shots of my excited teenager after he was finally able to get his driver’s license today. He turned 16 a week and a half ago, but was waiting on the “Gold” card from the state. He took driver’s ed the 2nd 9 weeks and at the end of the class, which ended after Christmas break, he was able to take the Driver’s Test with his Driver’s ed teacher instead of at the DMV. The “Gold” card has to be sent from Montgomery and it didn’t make in time for his birthday.

So this morning we got up at the crack-o-dawn to get a good spot in line at the DMV. There was a group of Mexicans infront of us, but it turned out they didn’t have all the proper paperwork, so we didn’t have to wait that long.

Here’s my boy with his important piece of paper!

Boy Scout Ski Trip 2014::Gatlinburg, TN {Day 3 & 4}

If you missed my post about Day 1 & 2, you should read it here first.
Sunday we got up pretty early so we could hit the slopes before the crowds. We ate breakfast at the hotel, rode the tram back up the mountain, got our ski boots and skis, and then it was time for ski school for most everyone.

Waiting for our lesson to begin
SkiTripDay2-2014 - 03

Not long after we took this pic we saw Teenager as well as most of the other boy scouts, flying down the mountain like they’d been skiing for years. The realization hit that they had skipped ski school! That would be a discussion we would have with them later, but now was time for us to listen and learn.

After we were done with ski school, it was time to head in to meet up with the boys, to hand out money for lunch, and then grab lunch.

You see there person sliding down the hill while trying to depart the ski lift? Yes, that would be me! That was just the beginning of me spending more time on my back instead of my skis going down the 3 part “beginner” slope.

Around 5:00, I decided I’d had enough of heavy ski boots and a bulky ski suit, I was ready to ride the tram back down the mountain. Rob, Teenager, Monkey, and a few other scouts wanted to stay and do some night skiing so, that meant I was going to have the evening to myself!

When I got back down the mountain, I went back to the room to shed my ski suit and figure out where I was going to eat. I had a couple places not too far in mind. I ended up at Calhoun’s, which was just down the street from the hotel.
