Christmas Decor – Part 2

I just can’t seem to get into a groove of writing like I’d hoped. We’ve been busy buying for Christmas, planning the menu, etc! Oh the joys of CHRISTMAS!

Anyway, I’m going to continue from my Part 1 post about decorations.

A few years ago Rob’s parents added to my Clown collection with this adorable stocking holder. Up until last year we didn’t even have a mantel to put him on, so he sat up on the entertainment center with nothing hanging on him. We used to hang our stockings on our bannister seen here. I was so excited last year when he found a home on the mantel.

Last year I finally broke down on got some nicer stockings. I wanted something a little different. Not to dressy, but not to kidish either. I found these at the Stocking Factory. They really complete the mantel at Christmas.

Christmas Decorations 2008

Since I started this post off with something Rob’s parents got me, I’ll continue on with more treasures they have added to our collection. Next is a reindeer and sleigh holding some greenery. It used to have candles in it and was a centerpiece one year.

Christmas Decorations

A couple years ago Rob’s parents had a friend making these. I think they made them with red or green. It’s one of those glass tiles with lights inside and a bow! Pretty cool idea.

Christmas Decorations

This wall hanging I think was given by Rob’s Step-dad’s parents, but I honestly don’t remember for sure. I’ll have to look on the back and see if I wrote on it.

Christmas Decorations

I still have lots to talk about. In fact I realized I haven’t taken pictures of everything yet, like I thought I had. We’ll see how much I can talk about before Christmas comes and passes!

So I’ll ask again…What’s your favorite Christmas decoration?

Christmas Decor – Part 1

So the other day, I talked about pulling out all the Christmas stuff and this year I really had time to reflect as I carefully unwrapped each item. I figured I’d start by talking about the things from my Paternal Grandparents. I’m sure I’ve talked about it before, but for anyone who’s new here, I’ll say it again. My Paternal Grandparents raised me. They were granted custody of me when I was about 3 or so. My weekends were split between home, mom, and dad. But…that’s a whole ‘nother blog or two. We’ll just leave it at the understatement that my Paternal Grandparents played a huge part in my life. My Granddad passed away in 1999 and I talked about him before about his generous nature. My Grandmother is still here and has a special place in my heart too and I probably don’t give her enough credit. I’ll quit rambling about them and get on with my decorations, which was the point of this blog entry, right?

This first deocration was given to me one Christmas and I’ll have to say I actually can’t put a time on it. These are clowns (to go with my Clown collection), which I guess I need to talk about one day too! I just find it adorable that they’re about to kiss as the daddy clown holds up the mistletoe!

The next one my Grandparents gave me when I was at Texas Tech, living in the dorm. This is called the Elf Dormitory, so my Granddad put the name of my dorm above the door, if you look real close you’ll see it says COLEMAN HALL. They loved to send me surprises while I was away at Tech and this came in early December of my freshmen year to put a little Christmas cheer in my dorm room as I studied for my first set of finals!

The next two are stuffed Christmas decorations; one a Santa and the other an elf. These are getting to be on their last Christmas or two. They’re hand-me-downs from the Grandparents and I’m not sure if you can tell but the elf has now lost his nose and Santa has a few chew marks from some menacing rodents (which again is nother entry to be written some other day!)

So this is the start of my Tour of Homes at Christmas time. I’d love for you to share some of your cherished memories of Christmas decor, so leave a comment and I’ll come read. 🙂

Last night

Last night I had a photo job at Lambda Chi during their Christmas party. Yes, compute that in your head…me…at a frat party! I will have to say it was GREAT! I had a blast. Yah, getting paid to take pictures is fun, but listening to the music (which rocked by the way), watching them dance and get a little crazy just made the night even greater. It totally brought back memories and it just made me smile.

The attire for the night was crazy Christmas stuff, from Santa suits, to Rudolph, to red and green PJ’s and elf hats. I’ll leave you with this pic.

Hrm…

I’m having such a difficult time juggling where to post what! Since I have a photography blog now, if I have good pix I want to post them there of course. I post stuff on flickr too! And then there’s here and my cooking blog. I could blog all day long it seems! So I don’t know…..

A quick summary of a few things we’ve been up to:
Thursday was the Auburn Christmas Parade. TV Boy got to ride on his cub scout float for the last time since he’ll be moving up to Boy Scouts next year. Here’s a picture of the cops, who were at the beginning of the parade. (You can see more pics of the parade if you click on the pic below.)

Christmas Parade 2008

Today we went to the Christmas tree farm. I have posted about that on my photography blog. I’ll be posting a few more pics on flickr soon.

This evening we decorated the tree, while listening to Christmas music. Besides having some issues with blinking bulbs and the tree that didn’t want to stand up straight, it went well. I love this time of year!

Christmas?

I’m still in awe that it’s the Christmas season. A couple days ago Rob pulled down all the Christmas stuff. It’s amazing how our stuff seems to multiply every year. So today I did some cleaning and put out all the Christmas stuff out. It’s always a walk down memory lane as I unwrap all my stuff. I plan to taking a camera tour of all the Christmas stuff and tell the memories I have of each thing.

Tomorrow we’re going to the Christmas tree farm to cut down a tree and bring it home and decorate it. Every year when we decorate the tree it’s bitter sweet. My Granddad absolutely loved Christmas and I think of him a great deal during Christmas time and especially when we’re decorating the tree. He was such a giver. Granddad loved to go shopping even when it wasn’t Christmas. He was the one who always took me school clothes shopping. Granddad has been gone for 9 and half years, which in so many ways, it doesn’t seem that long. I wish he could have met Monkey Boy.
