Emotional Ending Soccer Game

Last weekend Drew’s team played the USC boys from Huntsville. This team suffered a loss on August 31st, when one of their players passed away due to the Swine Flu. In remembrance of him our boys wore wrist bands with his number 18 on it. At the end of the game when shaking hands they handed the wrist bands to the other team. It was quite emotional. After our boys did that, the other team came over to us and shook our hands. The coach also came over and expressed his gratitude for the thought. It was quite emotional. We thought it was fitting the game ended in a tie.

I don’t know what it was, but when I saw the other team put the wristbands on, I got a huge lump in my throat and chills up my spine.

Friday’s Favorite: Touch Bible LE

Touch Bible LE

by: Patrick Franklin
Category: Reference
Released: November 2008
Size: 26.7 MB

I love this because instead of lugging my bible to church, I’m able to be able to access the entire bible without having WiFi. Since I have an iPod touch, I don’t have the luxury that iPhone users have. So the other day when I went to church and forgot my bible, I decided to give it a try. I first checked to see if I was able to connect to WiFi, because I thought for sure I would need it for this ap. Shocked, but happy was I when I was able to pull up all the necessary verses for the sermon. How great is it have scriptures at your fingertips any time, anywhere!

Visitors

Last weekend we had 2 sets of visitors. Drew was very excited to see his good friend, who moved 3 years ago. They haven’t seen each other that entire time, so it was such a great reunion for the boys. It seemed that they picked up right where they left off. Here’s a few pics.

Friday’s Favorite: Zenbe Lists

Zenbe Lists

by: Robert Kieffer
Category: Productivity
Released: October 2008
Size: 0.2 MB
*Note: This was free I downloaded it. It appears now that it’s not now. I apologize for that, but I was nearly done writing this when I noticed that.

Zenbe.com came out in 2008 and I think I must have started using it that summer. There’s three sections to Zenbe; email, lists, & shareflow. The lists part is the part of the site that I use with the iPod. Since I’m a serious list-maker, I find this site & app to be priceless.

What I usually do is make my to do lists & grocery lists on the list website. Then when I’m ready to head out to run errands and go to the store, I sync up my iPod and it updates my lists. After doing that you are not required to have any wi-fi. What I love about putting my grocery lists on there, is that as I’m shopping, I sit it in the top part of my cart and as I put stuff in my cart, I’m able to “put a check mark in the box next to the item” and it moves to the bottom of the list. This makes it easy to see what I have left to get. This is a big reason why I chose this list app over others. Here’s a picture of looks when you’re viewing your list.

It’s also nice that you can still add things to your lists in the iPod app. Many sites/apps like this don’t allow that feature. So if you’re a list freak like I am, I would highly recommend this app. Although I plan to keep my eyes out for new lists app to find one that’s free and one that will hopefully stay free!

Friday’s Favorite: Unblock Me

I just think it is awesome that there are FREE applications for iPhones & iPods. Better yet they are 1,000s to choose from! I’ve found some that I just couldn’t live without. I’ve decided to write a weekly post every Friday to feature my favorite free iPod/iPhone application.

Unblock Me FREE

by: Kiragames
Category: Games
Released: August 2009
Size: 1.7 MB

Unblock Me is a game I quickly became addicted to. I guess I’ve always loved puzzle type games more than the normal board game, so this was right up alley. It turns out that my 5 yo and 11 yo also like it. In fact, they have both been able to solve a couple puzzles that I got stuck on! The object of the game is to move the pieces to get the red piece out of the opening that’s to the right side. The catch is is that if the piece sits vertical you can only move it up or down and if the piece sits horizontally you can only move it left or right!

I like that they have each puzzle numbered and there is over 400 combinations. You have the option to let it count your moves or not. Of course, with each update some of these features may change as their goal is for you to buy the full version.

Open House at the Kindergarten

I’ve gotten in a rut lately of not posting especially posting personal happenings. I really need to get back to that since that is what this blog was intended for. Anyway, last night was open house at the Kindergarten with Alex. I had already met his teacher at “Meet the Teacher Night,” but open house give them more of an opportunity to explain how things are structured, etc. I already had a good feel for how I thought she would run things, just based on how the room was set up and things that Alex had told me.

Sitting in those teeny little chairs for almost an hour though is not the most comfortable thing in the world. Haha! She of course gave us a packet that explained a lot about how she does things, which is good since Rob wasn’t there to hear. I also love it since I’m such a “keep-sakes” kind of person, it will definitely be something that goes in his book for Kindergarten! She explained that In K they have a developmental checklist instead of a report card and that this year there is going to be a great deal more expected of these little ones. They will be have to be able to read a lengthy list of site words, which means being able to READ before leaving K. This is very different from when Drew was in K. He left K without reading. Reading wasn’t something that I expected him to be doing before 1st grade so I wasn’t upset. Although, I know several of his friends came out of K reading. I knew he would have no problems in 1st grade.

As I looked around the room as she talked I was happy to see lots of “opinion” charts. I love doing these type activities. I saw that his favorite color is green. I also saw that from their author study last week, his favorite Keven Kenkes‘ book is Sheila Rae, the Brave. I can’t wait to go back after they’ve started their theme to see what they have made and how everything will be so decorated up with their creations. It’s just amazing what they do with those little ones!
