What’s in a Name?

name

Writing Assignment:
3.) How did you parents choose your name? What does it mean? What would you change your name to if you could? (inspired by Mama’s Losin It)
This writing assignment was difficult to choose. I could have written about almost all of them! I chose to write about my name. I don’t use my name on here too much. I’m going to put it here now, but since google is so smart I’m adding stars to trick google up!

L*y*s*h*a pronounced Lee-sha.

My mom had actually decided to name me Miranda, but my Dad’s grandmother and my Mom were very close and one day was talking with my great Grandmother (who we called Great-Great). Great-Great mentioned that she had a name for me that she would like her to think about and it was Leesha. My Mom must have fell in love with the name, obviously! She just decided to make her own spelling and use a “Y” for the long E sound. Needless, to say my name gets butchered more than not! Usually people say Lisha with a long I sound or Li-shay or who knows what else! LOL! I do like my name. I’m happy that I’m not one of those people that has a name that is shortened or that I go by my middle name. I don’t think I would change my name if I could. So that’s what’s in my name. What about yours?

Show Us Your Life {Favorite Team, Tailgating, & Traditions}

Show Us Your Life with Kelly's Korner

My favorite team is Auburn. It’s not just a team I root for, it’s my alma mater. Auburn is now home and has been since I moved here in 1996. It’s great living in a college town. Although, we don’t “tailgate” much, we often meet up with other tailgaters or usually just hang out on campus before games.

We enjoy the parades & pep rallies before the games.

Spark People is an app to keep up with your fitness and healthcare goals. I’ve used sparkpeople.com for years and really like it. I think the app is even better. There are many different tools on the app, some of which include weight goal, daily food intake, daily fitness log, and useful charts. I would highly recommend this app and the website for anyone who is goal oriented eager to keep with food intake and setting goals.

Friends {a poem}

Writing Assignment:
2.) Find your one very favorite picture of Summer and write a poem about it.
(inspired by Mama’s Losin It)
This is one of my favorite pictures from summer. Usually my fav pics do not include me, but I do love this one because of my great friend in it.

Fun with KK

Friends are something we often take for granted. Friends are people who are there no matter how bad life gets. They’re there to root you on when the going is good. They are not jealous of your accomplishments. They support you no matter what. They don’t turn their back on you when you’ve hit your low of lows. They know how to make you smile and laugh when it’s needed most. They have the magical power of calling when you need that talk, but are afraid to ask for it. Friends are something most of us don’t realize how important they are until it feels like you don’t have any….

Soccer Tourney 2009::Gulfport, MS

Last weekend we went to Gulfport, MS for a soccer tourney. We chose to stay at some condos across from the beach called Sienna on the Coast with some friends who have a son on the Drew’s team. We had a good time. Nice, clean, new condos with all the essentials. The beach is not really even worth calling a beach, but I did get some cool bird pics, which I’ll share later. We enjoyed cooking breakfast and eating lunch at the condo, not having to spend money of food. We did enjoy dinner with the team at Blow Fly Inn Restaurant after the 2nd game on Saturday. The highlight of the trip was that I got to see my little brother, who I haven’t seen in NINE years! The weekend ended with a win in the championship game, so it ended up being a great weekend all around.

The first time we went to Gulfport was right after we found out I was pregnant with Monkey. We went there in 2003 to see Weird Al Yankovic at the Grand Casino. Here’s a few pics from that trip. Things are very different from being wiped out from Katrina.

Out of town and don’t know where to eat? Well, the Urbanspoon takes care of that for ya! All you have to do is shake your iPod/iPhone and the Urbanspoon “slot machine” will pick something for you. Feeling like Mexican? Well you can lock that column and only Mexican restaurants will come up. You also have the option of locking the town or the amount of money you’d like to spend. You do need a wifi connection to search, which just means for us iPod users we need to do it before we leave the hotel! ๐Ÿ™‚

There’s also the website urbanspoon.com, where there’s restaurant reviews and lots of other useful tools.

Random

You’ll probably see more random entries, because I just feel like I’m not documenting my life. And with all the stresses, I just don’t see how I’ll remember all this. In fact, I’m upset that I haven’t documented more the last couple of years. Oh well…I never said I was a great writer, or that my stuff is even interesting.

So anyway, I’ve been substitute teaching more the last couple weeks. Up until today, I had subbed 8 straight days, which is good since I’m not getting any compensation any more. I’m hoping and praying that I can continue to work pretty much every day, at least until I find something more permanent.

I still teach music twice a week at a local day care. Not sure if I ever shared that with yall, but I’ve been doing that for a year now. It was something good to get me out of the house and to have something on my resume. In the last year, I’ve pretty much checked out all the music related books at the public library. Living in a college town really has a lot of perks, but you don’t realize how nice it is until you do. Of course, as a student you’re all in the midst of it all, but you don’t see it from a normal working citizen. At least when I was in college, I felt like I lived in a bubble. Anyway, my point being that just down the street is one of the largest libraries in the state, thanks to Auburn University! Several times in the past I’ve thought about getting an alumni card so that I can check out books at the AU library. This week I finally took the steps to do it. I feel so official with an alumni card, which looks like a student ID. WOW! If that doesn’t bring back memories.

So today I headed over to campus to use my card and check out books, so I could write my music plans for next week. Anyone who lives here or in a college town probably knows what a pain in the tail it is to park anywhere near campus! I usually just park in the library parking deck illegally and pray I don’t get a ticket for not have a (B) parking tag, but can you believe they PAY someone to stand at the entry to the lot??? I was shocked, but even more perturbed! So I drove around trying to find Duncan Street so I could get a visitor pass. Couldn’t remember where that is, so I ended up parking in the Auburn Hotel and Conference Center parking lot. All the places around campus have huge signs saying TOW AWAY ZONE. I parked there and prayed that I could get done fast enough that my car would still be there when I got back.

Going up the 3rd floor to the juvenile section brought back lots of memories. I was able to grab a few books and run. I plan to go back after business hours so I park in the parking deck and not have to worry about getting a ticket or being towed. I could spend hours in that library.

Randomness of today…

    — This evening around 7:40 I was able to get away and go to the grocery store! Pretty sad, when I’m excited about going to Wal-Mart. Nothing out of the ordinary, just a normal trip for groceries. I went through the self-check out, as I always do. I rang up my 50 items or so and paid. Then, as I got ready to pull my buggy away, I realized I didn’t ring up the items in the top part of the cart. Since there was a line waiting behind me, I wasn’t able to just ring up the items. I had to get back at the end of a long line and ring up the 2 loaves of bread, hot dog buns, grapes, bananas, and pickles! All at the cost of $12.76!
    — Today Alex and I were watching TV and this commercial came on:

    He wanted to know how you can fly with oatmeal.
    — Did you know Alex loves to eat hot dog buns plain? He can put down half a pack of buns in one sitting! The boy loves bread, much like his great grandfather. ๐Ÿ™‚
