Happy Children’s Book Week {May 2-8}

Happy Children's Book Week

This week is Children’s Book Week! Yay! Since Children’s books are my favorite, I’m bubbling with excitement to share my favorite children’s books of all time.

When I started thinking back to the books I had growing up, this is one that comes to mind first. I remember purchasing this at a school book fair. I couldn’t have been more excited. It remained one my fav books and I still have it today.

The Dollhouse Murders reeled me in and made me a lover of mystery and suspense.

Judy Blume, although controversial, her books were some of my favorites that I flew through in between assignments. My favs:
Freckle Juice, Superfudge, Fudge A Mania, and Double Fudge.

Probably my all time favorite author as a child was Beverly Cleary. I adore her work! Growing up my favorites were all the Ramona series. As a teacher, both my students and loved all the Mouse books.

In college, I read loads of children’s literature. A couple of my favorites that I discovered were:

The Giver is one I really want to go back and read again soon. Too bad all my books are packed away with all my classroom supplies/materials.

Someday when I’m able to go through my boxes of books, I’ll write another post about others that I missed. What are your favorite children’s books?

123/365.2011 {I must love these lil’ flowers.}

flowers

Yah, another flower picture. I took Daisy for a walk, and brought my camera hoping to get some shots. I found it to be difficult to work on her obedience training while taking pictures. So I managed to get this shot, at least. Daisy’s doing well with her obedience considering we have not made it a daily habit to work with her on it.

#Winning

I guess I should add an explanation to this. This is a painting that was done on the concrete wall in the parking lot stairwell outside of RBD Library. Not that I’m a fan of his, nor am I a fan of vandalism, but it was something different.

119/365.2011 {Great-Great’s Wedding Ring}

ring

This ring belonged to my Great Great Grandmother (my Granddad’s Mom), who I called “Great-Great.” She left a note saying I was to get this ring when she passed and luckily, her wish was granted. When I got the ring, the bottom part of the band was warn paper thin. Along with that her fingers were pencil-thin and there was no way it was fitting on my fat fingers! A few years after I got the ring, I took it to have it resized and repaired. The jeweler was drooling over it. This ring is over a 100 years old, so he looked over it to make sure the diamonds were secure. He said all the prongs were in great shape, which made me very happy. When it gets to that point, the ring will be retired to a very safe place. I don’t want to change the “face” of the ring, which would occur if the ring were to be repaired. I do wear this ring everyday in place of my college graduation ring, which currently doesn’t fit.

Fill in the Blank Friday 4.29.11

I found a fun new “meme” on This Life is Sweet yesterday and decided it would be fun. Fill in the Blank Fridays originates from The Little Things We Do.

1. I am looking forward to our trip this weekend. More about that later!
2. Something kind of embarrassing that I still love anyway is how silly I get when I’m so tired I can hardly stand it.
3. My favorite car is a Red Beamer, like this one:

4. If I could pick one type of weather to live with for the rest of my life it would be Fall-like weather, low-humidity, sunny, breezy, temps in the 60’s.
5. My favorite thing to do after a bad/stressful day is eat (What can chocolate not fix?), sleep, mindlessly surf the net, or watch TV.
6. This weekend will hopefully be a nice break from everyday life!
7. If I were a color, I’d be red, because I’ve always adored the color of red. When I think of red, I think of vibrant, passionate, exciting, hot-natured, red-headed.

Feel free to do it. Just copy and paste from below.
