Day 8 of our trip began with kolaches at Mornings Kolaches. Yummy! Then we headed to Johnson Space Center aka NASA for a busy, fun-filled day.
When we got to NASA, we decided to get the tours out of the way first, before the lines got long. We did the 2 tram tours that were available that day. The first one to the Mission Control Building and the Saturn V Complex. The 2nd tram tour was to Building 9, where astronauts train on their next mission to the International Space station.
The tour to the Original Mission Control room was awesome. It’s now a historical landmark. Here‘s a really good article about it.
Here’s a pic of Building 9, which is where they train to go to the International Space station.
After that we went through the Astronaut Gallery, which had folks dressed up impersonating astronauts from different times. They did a great job of filling our brains with tons of interesting facts and stories.
Then, we took a break for lunch. You are allowed to leave as long as you get your hand stamped. We went over to Kemah and ate at T-Bone Tom’s. I got the Country Fried Steak, fried okra, and onion rings. Everything was amazing, however the onion rings were nothing special.
We went back to see the rest of NASA. I think we pretty much saw all the major exhibits, movies, and galleries except for a couple of the kid play areas. If you ever go to Houston, this is a must do! It is a full day of fun and way worth the cost.
For dinner we went to the best Texas Style BBQ place ever at Rudy’s. Um-K, y’all. You know I’m from Texas so you gotta know that I love me some BBQ brisket, but y’all! This is the BEST brisket I’ve ever put in my mouth. And what’s better than slappin’ down some butcher paper and spreading it all out. I didn’t even need sauce it was so dang good!
Pics from Day 8 are here.
