Monday we said our goodbyes to Maria and fam. Then it was back on the road headed to my favorite state, Texas!!! We were surprised to see some “mountains” in Southern Oklahoma.
We went to a scenic lot and saw that Oklahoma is the hope of the Reflection seismograph .
Not long after that we saw this just that made my heart sing. **cue the sounds of angels singing**
We rolled into Deep Ellum just in time for lunch. This is such a neat place and although, in college I spent quite a bit of time here through the summers, it was at night. This place is just so cool. An artsy, entertainment district with 2 top rated restaurants for the state; Cane Rosso and Pepe & Mito’s. Our first option was the Italian spot (since we had Mexican the day before), Cane Rosso’s but when we got to the front door we saw these words “Closed Mondays.” Boo! So we hopped over a couple of blocks to have Mexican.
These 2 places are not only top rated they’ve also been on TV!
Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives: Cane Rosso’sPasta
Pizza
Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives: Pepe & Mito’s
Mex-Tex Meatball Soup
Tacos
The food was great. High quality and quick service. The chips and salsa was the best I’ve ever had, hands down.
We didn’t have a lot of time after we ate to explore and take pictures of the awesome graffiti and other art, so I just snapped some shots as we drove back to the interstate.
Next on the agenda was the National Boy Scout Museum, which is free on Sundays and Mondays. Worked out perfectly! This is a really nice place, with lots of cool historical scout memorabilia, interactive exhibits, and a Norman Rockwell exhibit.
They have levelized scavenger hunts for the different age groups, which both boys completed. They both received ribbons to bring back to their Pack/Troop to add to their flags!
After leaving there, we drove into my home town and got to my Granny’s house, where we were greeted by my Mom and Granny! 2 more reasons why I wished I still lived in Texas. 😉
